Oor Nevis is a panoramic summit view of our treasured Ben Nevis. As the UK’s highest peak, the artist felt that this would be a fantastic opportunity to show off Scotlands mountain by painting it on to the ultimate comic character, Oor Wullie. As the mountain is not accessible to all, Douglas thought that it was important to allow everyone to experience being at the highest point in the UK. As a keen skier and mountain biker, the artist grew up exploring the mountains and surrounding landscape. These landscapes are the inspiration for all his artwork.
Originally from Glasgow, Dundee-based artist Douglas gained a Master of Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone. Inspired by Scottish highland myths and legends, he portrays them using oils, acrylics and charcoal, capturing the intensity and majesty of the landscape. In 2013, Douglas gained a PDGE in Art and Design and is now an Art and Design teacher. His recent works concentrate on the use of vivid colours to represent the vibrant diversity of the Scottish landscape while focusing on the changing Scottish weather, producing turbulent skies and wild waters.
