Oor Sandness

'The design of our Oor Wullie incorporates the best bits of lots of designs by our 18 pupils. Puffins - Thousands of "Tammie Norrie" return to shetland for the summer. Sheep/wool - Our school is beside Sandness Mill which spins wool for knitting and cloth. We have lots of sheep in Shetland. Fair Isle Knitting - This is an intricate pattern originally knitted in red, yellow and green. Yellow wellies/fish - All the fisherman, crofters and farmers wear yellow wellies. Vikings - We are very proud of our Norse heritage and have Fire Festivals called Up Helly Aa. Flag - Nordic cross on blue background of the Scottish Flag.'
